XDA developer febycv has developed a way to install Google Now on rooted ICS Android devices. The only catch is that this version of Google Now lacks its voice search function. So if you want to test it then follow the below mentioned process.
Requirements
- Rooted Android device
- Device should be running on Android 4.0 AOSP ROM (like Cyanogen Mod).
- Google Now apk file
How To Install Google Now on Rooted ICS Android Devices
Follow the below mentioned process to learn how to install Google Now on rooted ICS Android devices.- First of all open root explorer or any other root-enabled file explorer and then navigate to /system.
- After this tap on “Mount R/W” button and scroll down to build.prop. Press and hold on it to get context options. Then tap on “Open in Text Editor”.
- Find the line “ro.build.version.sdk=15”. Edit the value to 16 so that final line will become “ro.build.version.sdk=16”. Once you are done editing, press the menu button and tap on “Save and Exit”.
- Now go to /system/app and then rename the app “GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk” to “GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk1” or anything you desire. If this file is not present there then skip this step.
- Reboot your phone and install the Google Now apk file.
- Now go back and edit build.prop as described in step two, and change the ro.build.version.sdk line back to the value 15.
- Reboot your phone once again.
- Voila Google Now is installed on your phone.
