5mm thick Gionee Elife S4.8 falls prey to the spy cam Posted: 29 Jul 2014 07:33 PM PDT Gionee's upcoming GN9005, i.e., the Gionee Elife S4.8 is all set to hit the shelves in the coming weeks. However, those that can't wait to have a glimpse of the device are in business today, as the device just got leaked via some spy cam shots. Believed to be thinner than the Elife S5.5, a device that holds the tag of being the thinnest Android smartphone yet, the Elife S4.8 is expected to be 5.5mm (or under) thick. This will easily make the phone the thinnest one in the world, beating the S5.5 by about 10%. The device has already managed to receive network certification, bringing it a step closer to launch. It'll come with a quad-core processor from Qualcomm, clocked at 1.2GHz along with 1GB of ram to comprise the heart of the device. Other specifications include an 8 mega-pixel camera and a 2050mAh battery (which somehow Gionee engineers have managed to cram in the slim body), with the surprise inclusion being on-board LTE. Would you ever want to own a smartphone this thin? Via |
Xiaomi sold 20,000 Mi3 units on Flipkart since launch Posted: 29 Jul 2014 06:37 PM PDT Second batch of Mi3 units went on sale on Flipkart yesterday at 2 PM. Flipkart and Xiaomi has announced that the week's stock sold out in 5 seconds. Last week's Mi3 stock sold out in 38 minutes and 50 seconds, mainly due to server issues on Flipkart. In first sale, Xiaomi reportedly sold 10,000 units of Mi3s. Today the company confirmed that 20,000 Mi3 units have been sold on Flipkart since launch. Prior to this week's sale Flipkart sent out instructions to registered users on how to add Mi3 to their shopping cart once the sale opened, so that they can complete the purchase later. Flipkart saw 2,50,000 users simultaneously accessing the Mi3 page, four times higher than the heaviest traffic once the sale opened at 2 PM, said the company. Even though users followed all the instructions and logged in 2 to 3 hours before the sale, most of them were disappointed when then saw "Out of stock!" message before adding it to the cart. Some users even saw "Sorry, you haven't registered!", despite registering for the sale. Since the company is importing less number of units per week, the demand is likely to be higher for the next few weeks. Registrations for August 5th sale has started. Registration ... |

New report puts more light on phablet sized Motorola Nexus ‘Shamu’ Posted: 28 Jul 2014 10:47 PM PDT Yesterday, there were reports about Google and Motorola working on a large screen Nexus device that is code named Shamu. Today, a new report from The Information is adding more support to the previous report stating that the duo is in fact working on a "phablet sized device". The report claims that this device is expected to be launched later this year. It further stated that Google and Motorola joined hands shortly after Google announced that it would be selling the handset maker to Lenovo to create a new Nexus. Google wanted to work with Motorola to give the new Nexus some of Motorola's trademark features, like always-on voice commands and active notifications, said the report. "Separately, Motorola is also getting a boost from working on an undisclosed phone-tablet project with Google—the type of initiative which, ironically, it could not pursue as a Google subsidiary due to concerns about favoring the house-owned Android vendor over others." said the report from The Information. Although the new report does not add any new details about the specifications of the Nexus phablet, it does continue using the codename 'Shamu' and that it will have a large screen. via:The Information |

"In the next few days, we're continuing to notify more people that if they want to send and receive Facebook messages, they'll need to download the Messenger app. As we've said, our goal is to focus development efforts on making Messenger the best mobile messaging experience possible and avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences. Messenger is used by more than 200 million people every month, and we'll keep working to make it an even more engaging way to connect with people." told Facebook to TechCrunch The move is part of Facebook's strategy to develop more standalone apps, like its new short-live photo and video app Slingshot.
